My Little Apartment: The Tour!

I gave you all a sneak peek of the new apartment here and a bit more of a peek here but now it's time for a full tour. Fun!

*I will say that if you're not into decor posts or diy posts or that kind of thing then Chronicled may become not quite your cup of tea. While I'll still be sharing things I find inspiring, my thrifting adventures, posts of Howard and bits and pieces of my personal life, I've been living in temporary spaces for almost THREE years - all the while waiting to get back into my own space...so the decorating and diy-ing posts have been a long time coming - you'll have to indulge me!

Good. Now that that's out of the way on to the tour, yes? Yes. So. My little apartment. I took some measurements (wall to wall not including closet interiors) and my new place comes in at roughly 745 square feet. Not massive but not teeny tiny and certainly bigger than my previous apartment. (These photos are a combination of photos taken when I went to the initial visit and some taken this past weekend...the stuff seen in the kitchen are not mine and I do not have a cat!)

When you walk in the front door there's this hallway that I'm way too excited about. Just to the left is a large coat closet. Straight ahead is the kitchen, at the end of the hall to the left is a linen closet, bathroom and the bedrooms. Take a few steps in the front door and turn to the right and there's the living room/dining room.

Living Room + Dining Room

door out to the balcony // just to the left of that door is an entry into the kitchen

the entry is straight ahead and to the left. those 80s (90s?) mirrors? already gone.

Looking back towards living area // windows on the left

The Kitchen

entry on the left leads into dining area (where the balcony door is) // entry on the right looks back towards the door

the partial door seen in the front is the linen closet

Needs a bit of work, mostly cosmetic, but I've got plans for it. It's technically large enough to function as an eat-in kitchen with a small table and two chairs but there's no need for me to have two eating areas so I'm going to put in some kind of open storage instead (although there's more than enough cupboard space for me as well as a kitchen closet that I'll use as a pantry/broom closet).

Small Hall / Bathroom

Step out of the kitchen and turn right and this is what you'll see. Linen closet on the left, bathroom straight ahead, main bedroom to the left of the bathroom and guest bedroom to the right. Not crazy about the blue tile in the bathroom. Or the vinyl peel and stick flooring (not because it's peel and stick but because of the colour/pattern). Plans to update this room too.

The Bedroom

It's a decent size.

The Guest Bedroom

Although this room will be set up as a guest bedroom I want it to have multiple functions or else, unless I have overnight guests, the room won't get used by me at all. I want to live in the entire space so the plan is to also make this function as an office and library.

I didn't put a filter on the pictures to try and make them look better because I wanted to show you guys what I'm really working with. Yes, things look a bit rough in the pictures - but I love the layout and the space. A good cleaning and fresh paint will immediately make it look 100x better. And I'm hoping a good washing will bring the hardwood floors back to life.

And a little sneak peek of how things looked Sunday morning when I stopped by quickly:

yes, I put a filter on this photo to make it easier on the eyes ;-)

Cleaning will continue today and painting will get underway too (if I can pick a damn colour from the swatches that are up!); tomorrow boxes will be brought in. I've taken a few days off work to not feel stressed about this whole process of moving and I think it'll prove to be a good move. It's allowing me, along with tons of generous help I'm receiving from family and friends, time to give the place a thorough clean and to get the place at least semi-painted before moving any of the big stuff in. While nothing is in place yet, and won't be for a few more days, a thorough clean, a new paint job, some fresh flowers, and lovely smelling candles is already making a world of difference.

And while I have yet to spend the night here, every time I walk in the door I'm so happy - it's a great space that I can not wait to make feel like home. I think Howard and I will be very happy here.

If you want to follow this entire process in real time, little sneak peeks here and there and photos that don't make it to the blog, be sure to follow me on instagram @kayinto.
