"A portrait of Howard, my dog, once a week, every week, in 2013."

A few weeks ago I re-discovered the lovely blog Che & Fidel just as Jodi was restarting her 52: A portrait a week project. I loved the idea and wanted join in but since it was a project initially started as a way to document the growth of your children over the year...I wasn't sure how I could interpret it and make it work for me. Then I discovered Rebekka Seale's blog and saw how she interpreted the project - taking a portrait each week of someone who is important to her. I loved that idea...but knew that wouldn't work for me either; I don't really know 52 people. And then the lightbulb went off. Howard. My Howard. I'll take a portrait of Howard every week and share the results here. I'm really excited about this and and looking forward to seeing how this will push me creatively; photographing a dog. And I'm further challenging myself to photograph him with my real camera not my iPhone. This should be really interesting.

The challenge is currently in Week 8 so that's where I'm jumping in. This week I captured Howard while we were out on our walk. The snow has melted enough that his feet don't immediately get too cold when we're out and, because there's no ice, there's less salt on the sidewalks to bother him. While we were out it started snowing which added some pretty softness to the picture. Howard came into my life in December 2007 and my love for him is insane. I never thought it was possible to love a non-human as much as I love this little guy.

+If you want to participate you can download a button for the project right here. If you decide to participate let me know - I'd love to follow along!

++This is post number FOUR HUNDRED. INSANE. Stay tuned - a giveaway coming up soon!
